Phenytoin (diphenylhydantoin, dilantin) has been the chosen anti-convulsive for the treatment of sudden disorders since the late 1930's. Several epidemiological and clinical studies in human beings showed an increase in malformations in descendants of which mothers took phenytoin during gestation, such as cranio-facial development and growth abnormalities, distal phalangeal hypoplasia, and light or moderate mental deficiency. This work had the goal to study the lingual mucosa, under histopathological and morphometric standpoints, in rat fetuses which were given an intraperitonial injection, consisting of a unique dose of phenytoin (70 milligrams/kilogram of their weight). Being that, we included the examined material in paraffin, 6 micrometers thick, and...

Fazeli,Seyyed Amirhossein; Davarian,Ali; Behnampour,Naser; Golalipour,Mohammad Jafar.
The neural plasticity showing the ability of nervous system to change its structure and function is a well-documented fact. However regional variation within a CNS structure to undergo plastic changes has been shown by limited studies. Along medial-lateral sequences of parasagittal sections, the molecular layer thickness of primary fissure borderlands in rat cerebellar left hemisphere was studied to assess the regional difference in plasticibility. Despite the homogeneity of cerebellar histology, this study showed that there is a significant interlobular difference between ML thicknesses of Prf borderlands. In addition, it revealed that the thickness alters in a significant trend within each borderland. The quantitative heterogeneity of cerebellar...
